Best Supplements for Cancer Patients to Add to Smoothies

Smoothies are so beneficial to those with cancer; it’s a wonder that nutritionists and dietitians never thought of them 40 years ago. In one smoothie, you could get 5 to 6 servings of healthy fruits and vegetables, which can start to rebuild the body after cancer treatments that leave a person with symptoms.

Besides fruits and vegetables and yogurt or protein powder in these smoothies, you could add additional nutritional supplements that could further accelerate a patient’s recovery and cause remaining symptoms to dwindle.

11 Nutritional Supplements That Could Make a Difference

Below is a list of different nutritional substances to consider adding to your smoothies.

  1. Lecithin – Lecithin is an emulsifier and used in food recipes, but when consumed on its own, you can expect a boost in brain power and memory. Normal dosage is 1-2 tablespoons. Start with only one-half teaspoon in your smoothie.
  2. Nutritional yeast – The first type of nutritional yeast used in the field of nutrition was brewer’s yeast, which worked well for many years. The only problem was that it had a peculiar taste that only mixed well with tomato products. Then nutritional yeast came on the scene and was better tolerated. Nutritional yeast is high in B vitamins and may also contain chromium and sometimes selenium. Normal dosage is 1 tablespoon. Start with only ¼ teaspoon.
  3. Wheat germ oil – This is one of the best sources of the antioxidant vitamin E. Normal dosage is 1 tablespoon. Start with only ¼ teaspoon.
  4. Flaxseeds – These are great for energy and can help you beat fatigue. Normal dosage is one tablespoon. Start with only ½ teaspoon.
  5. Milk thistle – This herb is one of the best liver cleansers, and every cancer patient needs their liver cleansed. Normal dosage is one teaspoon three times daily. Start with only ¼ teaspoon.
  6. Rose hips powder – Rose hips are the part of the rose that is left when the rose is finished blooming. It’s a powerhouse of the vitamin C complex, not just vitamin C (ascorbic acid), but also the bioflavonoids hesperidin, quercetin and others. Normal dosage is 1 teaspoon. Start with ½ teaspoon.
  7. Slippery elm powder – This herb is used as a building block for whenever new tissue needs to be built in the body. Normal dosage is 1 heaping tablespoon. Start with ½ teaspoon.
  8. Diatomaceous earth, food grade only – This is pure silica and it is essential for every bit of connective tissue in your body to be strong. Normal dosage is 1 heaping tablespoon twice daily. Start with only ½ teaspoon daily.
  1. Probiotics – Your gut bacteria influence many things in your body. Now there is evidence that gut bacteria even create hormones. Normal dosage varies; your best bet is to read the label and only add 1/4th of the dosage.
  2. Alfalfa powder – The roots of alfalfa go down deep in the soil to grab every possible nutrient there in the soil. Alfalfa is one of the best sources of nutrients overall. Normal dosage is one tablespoon. Alfalfa can interfere with coumadin so if you’re going to take it, let your doctor know and take only ¼ teaspoon to start.
  3. Spirulina – This is high in amino acids as well as a source of vitamin B12. Only small amounts are needed. Normal dosage is one-half teaspoon. Start with only one-eighth of a teaspoon.

Add at least a few of these 11 nutritional supplements to your smoothies for an even more power-packed drink to help you feel best.
